Heroes of the Storm tournaments general overview
Heroes of the Storm, which was initially known as Blizzard DotA and later as Blizzard All-Stars, is a MOBA video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The game was initially released for Windows PC, but later on, it also became available on OS X. The game includes heroes from Blizzard’s very own franchises like Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, The Lost Vikings and Ovewatch. Heroes of the Storm is a free to play game along with some micropayments system. A player can visualize the hero by purchasing specific in-game items. Moreover, mounts of different heroes are also purchasable in the game. Blizzard mostly refers Heroes of the Storm as an online “Hero Brawler” game.
With the development in the game, people started to play Heroes of the Storm and the game quickly became popular in less than one year. Overall, the gameplay of Heroes of the Storm is similar to DotA 2 where you’ve to fight against your opponent with the help of special combinations and item skills.
There are number of tournaments that are currently taking place in Heroes of the Storm. Some of them are, OGSeries Storm League, Enter the Storm EU – Cup #4, Gold Series Hero League 2015 – Grand Finals etc. These tournaments are organized by well-known organizations.
OGSeries Storm League
Currently, OGSeries Storm League have put together a league with a base prize pool of €2,000. The tournament initially features eight European teams competing against each other for a 6 team playoff bracket.
Super League 2016 season 1
Super League 2016 season 1 has a base prize pool of $200,000 and it will feature top eight teams which will fight against each other in two groups. Each group will contain four teams which will play in a best-of-five series with double elimination bracket system. The top two teams from each group will advance for the semi-finals of Super League 2016 season 1. The semi-finals will also be played in a best-of-five series with double elimination bracket while grand-finals will be played in best-of-seven games format. The winner and runner-up of the tournament will qualify for the Spring Championship.
Heroes Championship – Katowice
Heroes Championship – Katowice is an online tournament which includes a base prize pool of $100,000. Each region will have one open qualifier and it will feature sixteen professional teams. All matches in the open qualifier will be best-of-three with single elimination bracket. The top two teams from each qualifier will advance to the main event. The qualifiers will take place from January 23rd, 2016 to February 13th, 2016.
The main event will include eight teams that will be competing against each other. The format of the main event is yet to be decided but the top two teams from main event will qualify for the Spring Championship.
GIZ and TL.HotS have already made their spot through qualifier #1 for the main event by defeating Fnatic.HotS and Na’Vi.HotS respectively.
Gold Series Heroes League 2015
Last but not the least, Gold Series Heroes League 2015 featured some of the best games in Heroes of the Storm. Eight teams were competing against each other in best-of-three format with Round Robin system. eStar HotS were already looking really strong in the group stages and they continued their teamplay aggression till the grand finals where they won $47,250.
